Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Rhinoplasty is a procedure used to reshape the nose. The type of rhinoplasty depends on which particular area of the nose needs correction.

The benefits of surgery:

  • Improve the appearance and proportion of your nose.
  • Reduce projection and prominence.
  • Dorsal hump reduction to improve facial appearance.
  • Correct injury.
  • Enhance facial harmony.
  • Boost your self confidence.

Surgery to reshape the nose is a very common plastic surgery procedure and it can both increase or decrease the size of nose. The shape of the tip, the bridge and also the nostrils can be changed as can the angle between the nose and the upper lip. Sometimes breathing difficulties can be corrected at the same time.

There are a number of different types of nose reshaping operation. The exact procedure will depend on the aim of the treatment. The operation is usually under a general anaesthetic.

The two main techniques used are called ‘open’ or ‘closed’. Open means that some or all of the cuts are made outside the nose, whereas closed means all the cuts are made inside the nose.

A nose reshaping operation normally involves separating the soft tissue that lies on top of the nose from the bone and cartilage underneath. Depending on the operation, the surgeon might break the nose bone and reposition it, and/or reshape the cartilage.

Nose reshaping surgery generally takes around two hours. After the operation, it’s likely you will need to wear a protective splint over your nose for a few weeks. Stitches inside your nose are dissolvable and will not need to be removed.
