Tummy Tuck Durham

A common goal for many individuals is to achieve a toned and flat stomach. Sometimes this cannot be achieved through just weight loss or exercise due to factors such as excess sagging skin, abdominal distension and / or overhang of skin. If you live in Durham or the surrounding areas, Dr. Kim can perform a tummy tuck to suit your needs.

Causes include:

  • Ageing.
  • Heredity.
  • Significant weight change.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Results from a previous procedure.

Benefits of the procedure:

  • Weakened of separated muscles can be restored to improve the abdominal profile.
  • Excess skin and fat will be removed.
  • May increase self-esteem and confidence.

Two types of Abdominoplasty operations are available, mini and full. Liposuction may be used alongside either to improve results. The tummy tuck will be performed whilst the patient is under general anaesthetic and can take up to three hours. The length of the surgery will be influenced by the extent of fat or skin that needs to be removed, but the correct type of surgery will be discussed with you before the operation.

Mini Abdominoplasty

For this procedure an incision is made along the lower abdomen (bikini line) and skin is separated from the wall of the abdomen. Excess fat and skin will also be removed before the remaining skin is pulled back together and stitched.

Full Abdominoplasty

An incision will be made across the lower abdomen / bikini line. A second incision will also be made to disconnect the belly button from its tissue. Skin is removed from the wall of the abdomen and stomach muscles are tightened if necessary. A new hole is created for the belly button. The rest of the skin is sutured together.

It will be a requirement for you to stay over for monitoring for up to three nights. Your wound will be reviewed seven days after the operation. You will be asked to wear a supportive corset for four weeks to maintain the abdominal contour.
